Description by Rolf

My old garden gate was rotten and half fallen apart. Since I dislike regular work, I quickly realized that I needed to build something myself. So, I came up with the idea of creating a fairy-tale gate. But first, I looked around to see if there was a beautiful gate for sale. I googled for fun in Persian and ended up on Persian websites with breathtakingly beautiful designs. However, due to size and sanctions: no chance. The only option was to build it myself.

How I Made This Project

The first thing I looked for was laminated wood suitable for outdoor use. I found this at TOSIZE.it. Next, I placed both boards on top of each other and cut out the oval shape. Then, I looked for a Chinese character with a garden context. I chose "love" because it can be done with just one character. I then used calligraphy software to design crossed even lines and marked a circle for each intersection in the calligraphy area for a later hole. Afterward, I made a large print, laid it on the boards, and drilled 104 holes. In each hole, I placed a green glass crystal. For the paint, I chose two shades of white. I had the wooden flames on the posts turned. I bought a small copper crocodile in Indonesia as a latch. Finally, I added brass baroque hinges, and the fairy-tale gate was complete.

Dimensions of My DIY Project

The gate itself measures 200 cm x 94 cm.
