In this DIY project, Peter shows how he made a cabinet with custom-sawn primed MDF to display his collections. He chose primed material, which ultimately saves a lot of time when painting! Read below how Peter tackled the project.

Description by Peter

I built this cabinet for our collections. We searched for a long time for an existing cupboard, but could not find it. Or too high, or too expensive, or not the right layout. Finally decided to make it myself. I had everything cut to size via this handy webshop, so that I could get started straight away when everything was delivered to my home. I placed my order in several parts, so that I could accurately measure what I needed for each part.

How I made this project

It took me a month to work on it and the cabinet is painted in an old English color. Paint from Farrow and Ball. The great thing about primed MDF is that it can be immediately painted in the right color. However, I first pre-treated the end edges well to reduce the absorbent effect. In one of the photos the cupboard is furnished with a large part of our collections. Because I made the cabinet completely custom-made, I was able to completely adjust the size of the compartments to the collections.

Dimensions of my DIY project

The cabinet is 300.0 cm wide , 40.0 cm. deep and 250.0 cm high.
