Description of Anneke

In the bedroom we have a "bridge cabinet" next to and above the bed. Because it is not practical to have separate bedside tables next to the bed (they would get in the way of the drawers and doors of the cabinet), we have created a headboard with compartments in the space between the bridge cabinet of MDF. In these compartments we have incorporated a power outlet with USB and USB-C connection. This way books fit in the compartments, phones can be charged etc.

How I made this project

In the space between and under the bridge cabinet we first built a frame that supports the upper cabinet parts on the one hand and also serves to attach the MDF headboard. We made the MDF headboard in 2 parts because of the dimensions. We left a space behind the bed (not visible because the bed is in front of it) to easily reach cables etc., but this can also be closed completely. To create the storage compartments, we sawed 3 rectangles from the MDF using a router. Behind these we mounted the compartments using angle profiles, which are also made of custom-sawn plates of TOSIZE.it MDF plates. After mounting the storage compartments, the MDF plates were screwed onto the wooden frame, after which the screw holes were filled with MDF filler and then sanded smooth. This was repeated a few times until the holes were completely smooth and no longer visible. After this, the entire headboard was primed twice with MDF primer and then finished twice with matte wood varnish.

Dimensions of my DIY project

Headboard size (but easily adjustable): height 180 cm width 200 cm depth: 30 cm
