MDF moisture resistant V313: what is it?
MDF moisture resistant is a versatile sheet that is suitable for various interior panelling applications in humid areas, such as in the bathroom and kitchen. It is also known as MDF V313. The V313 characteristic comes from the test for moisture resistance that the sheet material undergoes, which is called V313. It indicates that the sheet is not only moisture resistant, but also resistant to water and mould. Note, the sheet is not waterproof! Moisture-resistant MDF sheets are composed of dried wood fibres and glue. These wood fibres are then pressed together under high pressure and temperatures to form an MDF sheet. With MDF moisture resistant, a special moisture-resistant adhesive is used. To strengthen its moisture-resistant properties, the material is compressed under a higher pressure compared to MDF natural. Because of the extra hard pressing, this type of wood is easy to work with. Moisture-resistant MDF sheets can be recognized by their green core. If you want to work on a 'blank sheet' that is moisture resistant, opt for MDF moisture resistant. MDF Moisture resistant V313 is not suitable for outdoor use.
MDF moisture resistant is a structural sheet. This means that this sheet material still needs the necessary finishing before it can be used for visual applications. This sheet is not suitable for outdoor applications.
Available thicknesses of MDF moisture resistant V313
Moisture-resistant MDF sheets can be ordered in different thicknesses. You can easily specify your desired thickness in the product configurator. This way you can be sure that the sheet material meets your requirements: both the size and thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 6 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm, 22 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm and 38 mm.
Machining MDF moisture resistant sheets
MDF is easy to work with: when milling and sawing, the material does not splinter. To do justice to the moisture-resistant properties of MDF Moisture resistant, it is important that the sheet is properly sealed. The top and bottom sides can be sealed with a primer or a coat of lacquer. The sheet edges deserve some extra attention. MDF fibres naturally have an absorbent effect. In the case of MDF moisture resistant, this is less than with MDF natural, but it is still important to treat it with an edge sealer. Moreover, primer works as an adhesive, making the final coat of paint look better.
Specific applications of MDF moisture resistant
MDF is the material of choice for furniture and interior applications. This can be a cabinet, a wall or a complete conversion. With this moisture-resistant variant, the furniture is also suitable for use in the bathroom, garage or kitchen. Examples of projects are a bathroom vanity, a kitchen cupboard, a partition in the bathroom or a window sill.
